Update Joomla and components
So, the first rule is you MUST do Is always keep Joomla and it’s components updated. You need to understand that mostly updates releasing not for new features or for good productivity but fixing bugs and vulnerabilities of the system. Because, if Joomla and component get some vulnerabilities, this information getting public and hackers try to use this chance to hack websites.
So if the component has some vulnerabilities and everybody know about that. Hackers can easily write some small script to use that vulnerability to get access to your website. The second most common mistake that every new beginner do, is using free templates and components downloaded from warez website and torrents. By installing this type of add-ons you risk to infect your website
Everybody loves FREE stuff but you need to understand “The Only Free Cheese is in the Mousetrap”. Do you really think there have some altruists that buying something to share it on the internet for free? Well, I’m gonna disappoint you.
Usually, these type of templates and component contain some link. Then they sell these links to get revenue. In a bad case, these templates and component contain some scripts names “sleeping script”. These scripts sleep for a while and starting work when hacker sending a request to it.
Rewrite Joomla files won’t help. If your website infected you need to not only clean your website also, your hosting. Even if you’ll clean it, the script can stay on hosting and after it can infect all your websites.
